Post-partum Screening for Diabetes Among Low-Income Women with Gestational Diabetes
This pilot proposed to define the incidence and prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a population of low-income women receiving their care in the FQHCs in Missouri. The project characterized the frequency of post-partum screening during the recommended time frames in this population and examined patient, provider, and system variables that predict likelihood of receiving screening. Furthermore, this grant aided in the building of a data registry for GDM within the FQHC Data Reporting and Visualization System (DRVS) that will provide the foundation for prospective data collection and analysis and evaluation of future interventions planned to improve screening.
This project had two specific aims: 1) Define the incidence and prevalence of GDM and rates of follow-up screening for diabetes in a population of low-income women and 2) Characterize patient, provider, and systems attributes that are associated with receipt of follow-up screening for diabetes in a population of low-income women with GDM.
