"Group Prenatal Care for Women with Diabetes: A Pilot Randomized Control Trial
The primary aim of this project was to determine the effect of group prenatal care on maternal diabetes self-care activities using the Diabetes Self-care Activities Scale2 and measured percentage of recommended blood glucose values as entered on logs since initial study visit. The secondary aims were to determine the effect of group prenatal care on:
- Maternal glycemic control. We will measure mean 3rd trimester fasting and 1-hour post-prandial blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c at delivery.
- Neonatal and postpartum maternal outcomes. We will assess neonatal birthweight and gestational age at delivery as well as maternal initiation of contraception and breastfeeding.
- Perinatal mood. We will use the Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale3 between 4 and 12 weeks postpartum.
- Perceived social support. We will use the Social Support Scale.4
