Data from several studies have found that RYGB is associated with an increased risk of subsequent development of alcohol use disorders (AUDs). The overarching goals of this study are to determine the effects of RYGB on the pharmacokinetics of ingested alcohol and subjective responses to alcohol consumption in people with T2D. In addition, the research team interviewed all study participants after they complete the study and are given the results of the alcohol challenge tests after RYGB surgery to identify a set of recommendations that will help translate the knowledge gained from this study into effective recommendations to prevent alcohol overconsumption and AUD.
