The Diabetes & Obesity Collaborative Lectureship Series is a cross-disciplinary lectureship, focused on type 2 diabetes prevention and control. The series aims to increase collaborations across disciplines, promote resource-sharing, allow sharing of works in progress, and offer presentations on a plethora of hot topics, best practices, evaluation of translational technologies, current research, and opportunities for
advancement in the field.

Objectives of the lecture:

  1. To outline health risks that are associated with sugar sweetened beverage (SSB)
    consumption and efforts to curb SSB consumption, obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) among children and adolescents.
  2. To provide an overview and discuss the likely effectiveness of school food policies,  school-based intervention programs and taxation on SSB.
  3. To discuss challenges of implementing the policies and programs and to suggest future steps.
