Dr. Ebony Carter has received a Mentored Patient-Oriented Career Development Award (K23) to study the impact of group prenatal diabetes care in improving health outcomes for low-income African-American women with type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Carter’s pilot program, Diabetes Centering Pregnancy (Diabetes CP),  seeks to work with women with increased risks of developing post-partum cardiovascular disorders. The group prenatal setting will focus on promoting and maintaining healthy behaviors among participants to reduce post-partum maternal weight retention.

Findings from Diabetes CP will ultimately inform new and innovative strategies that could be leveraged to improve long-term cardiovascular outcomes for many women in the United States.
